I just got home from the World Horror Convention, which is being held right here in Salt Lake City. Since I live in the suburbs, the con is only 25 minutes away. I attended with my buddy Patrick Tracy and we had our usual great time. I’m not a horror writer per se, but I have two stories with strong horror elements. Mostly, I’m a fantasy writer. Still, this is a great con where writers, publishers, and editors hang out.  My first horror story is Almost Brothers in the DAW anthology, Fellowship Fantastic. I managed to get the lead story and I need to make Almost Brothers into a novel. The other one is The Queen’s Ransom in Blue Kingdoms Shades and Specters.

So, I was on a panel today on networking, and it went really well. We had a good turnout and the attendees were happy at the end. I love it when a panel turns out so well.

Then I attended some panels and went to dinner with some cool writer friends: Thom Allen, Eric Swedin, Patrick Tracy, and Clint Johnson. There was some chatting and then I went to a poetry reading by lots of different writers. The poems were amazing and powerful. My friend, JoSelle Vanderhooft read from her Stoker nominated book, Ossuary. It’s amazingly beautiful. I hope she wins the Stoker. That would be so spectacular. Also, Steve Resnic Tem and his wife read some great poems as well.

World Horror is a fabulous convention and I’m so glad that I went. Now I can look forward to Friday and Saturday as I’ll be at the con the whole time.

Did I mention there were lots of skulls?

Hello,

I wrote 10,000 words (36 pages) this week, and finished the rough draft of my new pirate witch story. It feels so good to have written so much, most of it in two days.

I don’t have a title yet, but it’ll come to me soon, I hope. The story is long, and takes place right after the second story, The Queen’s Ransom. It’ll be published in June 2008, in Blue Kingdoms, Buxom Buccaneers. The first two stories were about 8,200 and 8,700 words. This one is 10,000 at the moment.

The story feels like the end of a novel and I’m really hoping to write this as a novel in the near future. We’ll see what happens, but I think it would be great.

I also found out that my pirate witch story will be the backdrop for a Murder Mystery at the I-Con convention in New York, April 4-6, www.iconsf.org. The gaming guests will be participating, so that should be lots of fun. I’m also running a D&D game set in the Blue Kingdoms at the con. I can’t wait!

The World Horror Convention is next week, right here in Salt Lake City, so I’m going to have a fun couple of weeks.

I wish you all the best with everything!

UELMA

Hello,

I had a wonderful week. I attended the UELMA (Utah Educational Library Media Association) conference in Ogden, Utah on March 6. http://www.uelma.org/

It was a lot of fun. I was there with RFF (Reading For the Future of Utah) http://www.rffutah.org/ . I met a lot of really nice librarians and helped hand out piles of science fiction and fantasy novels on behalf of RFF, which is a non-profit organization.

I’ve already been contacted by librarians to come and speak at their schools. My book tour is in May, and if anyone wants me to come and speak at their school or library, please let me know. You can contact me via my web site, www.paulgenesse.com.

Thanks again and have a good week.

Dead To Me

DeadToMe

I just started reading a cool book by Anton Strout. Dead To Me is a novel about a paranormal investigator with the power of psychometry: being able to touch an object and divine information about its history. Sounds great, but  for the main character, Simon Canderous, it’s not that cool. Touching your girlfriend’s belongings by accident can show you things you really didn’t want to see.

Check out Dead To Me on Amazon.com where it’s on sale for only $7.99.  If you’re looking for something else, pre-order The Golden Cord save 5% on checkout.

Happy reading!
